Wonder

Wonder by R. J. Palacio is an emotional and meaningful novel about Auggie Pullman, a preteen boy with a facial difference that starts attending public school for the first time. The story follows Auggie as he tries to fit in to this new world, make friends and deal with people who judge him for his appearance. What makes this book interesting is that it doesn't only focus on Auggie's experience but also other characters in the book like his sister Via, his friends and other students. This makes the book feel more realistic as it allows the reader to understand how the same events affect multiple people and how everyone deals with their lives differently.

The biggest theme in Wonder is kindness and friendship which is deeply explored. Throughout the book, Auggie finds friends who accept him for who he is and we see how these bonds grow and change through misunderstandings, arguments and moments where bad decisions are made. This portrays how not every relationship is perfect and that learning from mistakes is very important. It also shows how small choices and actions can make someone feel so deeply and how often judging people before actually getting to know them is wrong.

Overall, i thought Wonder was a very insightful novel that focuses on something simple yet important; the way we treat people without thinking about how our actions can affect them. I liked how we not only saw Auggie's point of view but also those around him and saw how they changed to become more understanding and accepting. The characters felt believable and the message about kindness was shown through various parts adding depth. Wonder is the kind of book that makes you think and question your own behaviour and teaches a memorable lesson.

i feel like this was a valuable quote from the book which was said by Via, Auggie's sister. This line and what she said after showcases how different her life was than Auggie and how she was in his shadow; less noticed and learning to do everything by herself. It's a very touching topic and her perspective in this book was very crucial as we understand how she still has struggles of her own that may not be noticeable.
